Wine

After we braved the crowds of Yosemite, it was time to move across California to the coast. Our first stop: Sonoma. As people who enjoy a nice tall bottle of 3 buck chuck from Trader Joe’s every once in a while, I’d consider us Sommeliers. Therefore it was only natural we stop in wine country. Just outside of Napa Valley we followed a friends recommendation (and our impeccable nose for good wine) to Alexander Valley Vineyards. They won a bunch of awards (in the form of a horse saddle?), but they won MY award for being one of the wineries of all time.

Redwood Forest

Before we reached where we were staying for the night, we had to quickly check out the Redwood Forest in CA.
Elk!

Towering Redwoods (honestly could be a cedar tree, but what do you guys know)

Smith River, CA

Our destination for that night was Smith River, CA for a shower and our first real bed of the trip. We stayed at the wonderfully charming “Arky’s Bed and Breakfast”. The hosts were fantastic and the setting on the coast was an amazing break from our, up until now, scorching hot adventure. Right out of our window we were treated to a view of the seas, various sea birds, and a gaggle (herd? pod? murder?) of seals.

Oregon Coast

After a shower and an amazing breakfast, we continued up the coast into Oregon with the plan to drive until we got bored enough to find a campsite. Lucky for us, there was plenty of sights to see and places to pull over.

Bandon, OR

After a whopping 2 hours of driving in Oregon, we did eventually get bored and decided to set up camp in the town of Bandon, home of THE Tony’s Crab Shack

With Appa set up, mosquitoes biting our ankles, and some excellent Californian wine, we were ready to take on the rest of what Oregon had to offer!
